From the Principal:
Welcome
I'm pleased to announce that Montanna Eastley has been appointed as our Prep Teacher (Thursdays and Fridays) from the commencement of Term 3 until the end of the school year. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating Montanna and wish her all the best as she joins our school community for an additional 2 days a week.
We also extend a warm welcome to the new students that have joined Our Lady of Mercy this term:
- Chola - Kinder
- Jesse - Kinder
- Javier - Kinder
- Grace - Grade 6
Last Friday, our student Mid-Year Reports were published on Compass. Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for our recent Learning Expo and for Parent/Teacher Conversations. Many years of research has shown that when schools and families work together, children do better, stay in school longer, like school more, are more engaged with their school work, attend school more regularly, behave better, and have better social skills. So thank you! If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to come in, please feel free to make a time with your child’s teacher early in Term 3.
I’d just like to thank the entire school community for a wonderful term. It has certainly gone very quickly, which is perhaps a sign of how busy school life has been! I have thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting with you all and meeting those students and families I hadn’t met before. There is something special about this school, which is made up of wonderful students and amazing staff who go above and beyond for the young people in their care. Thank you for your support and encouragement and wishing you all a wonderful holiday and remainder of the year.
Next term, we welcome Mary back from her well deserved period of leave. No doubt you’ll hear the stories of her exciting adventures as she settles back into life at Our Lady of Mercy.
Warm regards,
Paul Mannion
Acting Principal
St Brendan-Shaw College:
On Thursday, 27 June the grade 5/6 students went to St Brendan-Shaw College for a taster day.
We had a tour of the school and met up with past OLOM students who were happy to share their year seven experiences with us. The Grade 5/6 students participated in a woodwork class where the students created helicopters and cars. They also attended a Business Studies class where they learnt about the importance of supply and demand.
It was a wonderful experience for all grade 5 students to prepare them for secondary school. We greatly appreciate the support that St Brendan-Shaw gives us to allow our students to attend such an insightful day.
Mud Day Celebrations:
International Mud Day was celebrated on Monday with our K-2 classes. It is amazing the fun you can have playing and creating with mud!
Assembly:
This week we had a whole school assembly where we celebrated those students who received class awards, cross country participation and learning and achievement in the classroom.
Students who have been making good choices and living out our school values were treated to morning tea with Paul and Michelle.
School Attendance:
Attending school everyday matters!
Congratulations to all the students who have a very high attendance rate.
NAIDOC Week:
Next week is NAIDOC Week. Today, as a community committed to 'keeping the fire burning', Our Lady Of Mercy school held our very special NAIDOC Week Sharing and Awards Assembly. We were privileged to be joined by local elder and knowledge sharer, Uncle Hank. We shared our learnings, prayed together, sang songs, gave thanks and listened to our elders' wisdom. It was another fantastic way to end Term 2, celebrating the continuation of the oldest living culture on this planet.

Enrolments:
Enrolments for Kindergarten are now open and are filling quickly. If you know someone who has a child born in 2020, please contact the school office for an enrolment pack. We now offer a 5-day Kindergarten at Our Lady of Mercy.
We also have spaces available in all other year levels.
Signage
As you may have noticed, we have some new school enrollment signs (1200mm x 900mm). If you have a property in the Meander Valley area on a main road for increased exposure, and would be willing to host a sign, could you please let the office know.
School Uniform:
As you may have seen, our new school beanies have arrived, and many students are proudly wearing them. They are available from the office for only $20. We also have the plain green polar fleece ones available for $5.
Please note: These are the only approved headwear with the winter uniform.
Lost Property:
There are a number of items in lost property. If you see something that is yours, please come in and collect it, otherwise they will be donated to charity.
Piano For Sale:
We have a piano that has sat in our hallway for a few years, and we would really like it to go to a good home. If you would like a piano, we are open to offers. You would need to organise your own removalist, as pianos are very heavy.
