    From the Principal:

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had an excellent start to the school year.

As we head into the end of the first week, we certainly have some tired students.  It is great to see classes getting into a good routine. As we know, all children respond well to structure and routine in classrooms, and this is key to developing positive behaviour at school for students. I was listening to a local Hobart Dr and sleep specialist on ABC radio yesterday who works with parents and children.  She discussed the importance of good sleep routines and the benefits for children and families. I reflected on the similarities between home and school and the benefit of these routines.

At school, having a good routine is just as important as having a bedtime routine at home. Just like children feel more secure and calm when they follow a bedtime routine, they also feel more comfortable and focused when they know what to expect during the school day.

A good routine in school can help students stay organized, manage their time better, and reduce stress. When students know when it’s time to start a lesson, take a break, or get ready to go home, it helps them stay on track and be more successful in their work. Think about the bedtime routine for children. Brushing teeth, putting on pajamas, reading a story, and turning off the lights all help children relax and get ready for sleep. Similarly, when students have clear expectations in school and a predictable schedule, it makes them feel safe and helps them focus.

Getting plenty of sleep is just as important for learning and behaviour as a good routine. Sleep helps the brain rest and recharge, which makes students feel more awake, ready to learn, and able to control their emotions.

A solid school routine and enough sleep work together to help students feel calm, focused, and ready to succeed.  Your routines at home assist us.

    Kind regards,

    Mary Bennett

    Principal
